Eagles vs. 49ers, For All Things Holy

It's set: The Eagles will face San Fran in Round 1 of the postseason, setting up the most intriguing matchup of Wildcard Weekend

The Chase continues. Nick Sirianni knew exactly what he was doing when he rested Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and most of the Eagles’ core with the No. 2 seed still technically in play — and on Sunday, we saw the tradeoff in real time. The backups couldn’t close the deal, Washington stole a 24–17 win, Detroit handled Chicago, and Philly officially slid into the No. 3 seed, setting up a Wild Card date at the Linc against the San Francisco 49ers.

In the moment, it’s frustrating — Tanner McKee and the second unit couldn’t finish, and yeah, a second home playoff game would’ve been nice — but the bigger picture still favors the Birds. This team didn’t sacrifice anything that truly matters. They bought rest, health, and fresh legs for January, and now they get a familiar postseason villain in a banged-up Niners squad that’s been living off reputation more than results. Seeding comes and goes. Stars, health, and execution win playoff games — and the Eagles still have all three. Go Birds.

Let’s get into it.

🌊 THE CURRENTS

  1. EAGLES VS. NINERS IN ROUND 1. It’s official: the Eagles will host the 49ers in the Wild Card round after narrowly missing out on the No. 2 seed, with Detroit’s late win and Philly’s inability to finish sealing the three seed. It’s a heavyweight matchup loaded with playoff history — and despite the noise, this still feels like a spot the Birds should welcome. »Read More Here

  2. BEN JOHNSON TAKES SHOT AT PHILLY. Ben Johnson took another unnecessary shot at the Eagles for resting starters, puffing his chest about “playing football” after Chicago played its guys and still lost. Until he actually does something in January, the tough-guy routine — and the shade toward Philly — doesn’t mean a thing. »Read More Here

  3. PHILLIES & BO BICHETTE. The Phillies continue to circle Bo Bichette as a potential offseason pivot, and the more you look at the roster, payroll, and looming decisions around JT Realmuto, the more it starts to make sense. He’s an elite, proven bat who fits the urgency of a closing window — the question isn’t talent, it’s whether Philly is willing to embrace the financial and roster shakeup that comes with it. 4. WHAT’S TRENDING. Sunday night’s AFC North finale descended into chaos as Chris Boswell and rookie Tyler Loop traded missed kicks in the final minutes, swinging a wild 26–24 Steelers win. Two blown chances decided the division, sending Pittsburgh to the playoffs and leaving Baltimore stunned by how fast everything unraveled. Read more trending topics here.
