A Collision Course with the Boston Celtics
Sixers 2-0 Lead vs Nets, Jalen Hurts New Deal, Phillies Struggles
The Philadelphia 76ers jumped out to a relatively easy 2-0 series lead against the Brooklyn Nets as the majority of the city awaits the Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
While the buzz may not seem to be there, the second round matchup against the Celtics is going to send the city of Philadelphia into a frenzy and honestly, I really like the Sixers’ chances to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Jalen Hurts just signed a historic contract extension to say with the Philadelphia Eagles for the next five years, as the NFL Draft begins next week.
The Philadelphia Phillies are an absolute rollercoaster right now and just split a double-header in Chicago yesterday. Taijuan Walker will take the mound this afternoon before the Phillies return home to face the Colorado Rockies later this week.
All that and plenty more in this week’s edition of The Chase.

Let’s get running…
Currents 🌊
Joel “Troel” Embiid is BACK
Embiid took the podium after the Sixers pulled it together in the second half of Game 2 against the Brooklyn Nets and had plenty of shade to for Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn and him complaining about officiating and foul calls on the MVP front runner, comparing him to Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse from last year’s playoffs.
Embiid also threw some shade at the Memphis Grizzlies, more specifically, Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. after looking at the stat sheet and seeing he only had three blocks in Game 2.
To be clear, Embiid easily had 4-5 blocks on the night but for whatever reason, only three seemed to count in the final box score.
There’s a popular conspiracy conspiracy theory going around the internet that the Memphis Grizzles provide Jaren Jackson Jr “home cooking” and pad his stats during the regular season. Embiid, who has been somewhat quiet on social media these days, clearly took notice.
BIG Money for Philadelphia’$ Big 4
Welcome to the club, Jalen Hurts.
Hurts’ contract extension includes $179.3M in total guarantees, the first no-trade clause in Eagles’ history, and effectively makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history at $51M/year.
The deal was negotiated by Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports Group, who completed the largest deal by a female agent in sports history.
NFL Quarterback Cap Hits over the Next 2 Seasons
There’s a lot of chatter online saying that this deal by Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles was too much money for Hurts, but when you break it down, things really get put into perspective.
Bryson Stott 17-Game Hit Streak Ends
Brandon Marsh earned the Philadelphia Phillies’ only hit in Game 2 of their doubleheader yesterday against the Chicago White Sox, which ended Bryson Stott’s incredible 17-game hit streak to start the 2023 MLB season.
Stott now holds the Phillies franchise record for the longest hitting streak to start the season at 17 games.

Rough Start to 2023 but The Daycare is on FIRE
It’s early and there’s obviously no reason to panic. The Philadelphia Phillies got off to a slow start to begin the 2023 season, but we do have significant improvement from Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, and Brandon Marsh.
Rob Thomson on Bryce Harper’s Return
Rob Thomson hopped on Philly Sports Talk Radio today and discussed the return of Bryce Harper. Topper says he has a date, but he’s not ready to tell anyone yet. Our guess? Harper will be back mid-May after the Phillies’ West Coast trip.
