The whole league spent months treating AJ Brown to New England as a done deal the second the calendar flipped. The calendar flipped. Now the Patriots are suddenly squeamish about the one number that matters. Philadelphia's ask isn't complicated — a first-round pick, 2027 or 2028, and Brown is yours. New England spent over a year acting like this was already finished, and now that the bill is due they're flinching. Josina Anderson reported the Patriots spent the morning huddling over whether a 2028 first counts as a "comfortable middle ground," which is front-office for wanting the Ferrari at a Honda price. Howie Roseman has no reason to flinch back; the Eagles already built a roster that survives without him, and the clock works for the side that doesn't need the deal.
