Home Cooking: Phillies Return to Form at CBP šŸ””

Welcome to The Dog Days of Summer šŸ¶

Iā€™ve made this mistake before, but I think Iā€™m ready to officially announce the arrival of the Philadelphia Phillies to the 2023 MLB season.

The past week has been solid for the Philadelphia Phillies. They managed to take 2 of 3 from the Marlins in Miami before returning home to win 2 of 3 from the Kansas City Royals.

Yesterday, they split a doubleheader against the Washington Nationals and will host their NL East rivals for two more games at Citizens Bank Park before welcoming the Minnesota Twins to South Philly this weekend.

If youā€™ve been paying attention or crazy enough to read The Chase each week, then you already knew that August was the month that the Phillies were going to be able to shake up the National League Standings given their favorable home schedule.

Phillies August Homestand

  • Aug 4th-6th: Kansas City Royals

  • Aug 7th-10th: Washington Nationals

  • Aug 11th-13th: Minnesota Twins

  • Aug 21st-23rd: San Francisco Giants

  • Aug 25th-27th: St. Louis Cardinals

  • Aug 28th-30th: Los Angeles Angels

National League East Standings

The Phillies win, the Braves win. The Phillies lose, the Braves lose. Still 10.5 games back of Atlanta with no relief in sight in the ā€œbattleā€ for the National League East.

Luckily for the Phillies, the Marlins continue to crumble and the Mets and Nationals, well, just look at the standings and youā€™ll realize where they stand for the remainder of the 2023 season.

The Hunt for Red October continues in the NL Wild Card

The Phillies still sit atop of the NL Wild Card standings, tied with the San Francisco Giants.

Note: The Giants swept the Phillies back in May so technically, they do hold the tie breaker for the number one seed if the season were to end today.

San Francisco will head to Citizens Bank Park for a three game series on August 21st, which could hold major postseason implications when itā€™s all said and done.

Kyle Schwarber Snaps 0-19 Streakā€¦Finally

Schwarber hit two home runs in Game 1 yesterday against the Nationals, becoming the first Philadelphia Phillies player since Ryan Howard in ā€˜10-ā€™11 to have back-to-back seasons of 30+ home runs.

All Hail The Daycare: Bohm and Stott are on FIRE

Have the postgame antics of ā€œThe Daycareā€ jumped the shark? Thatā€™s certainly up for debate, however the Phillies younger core continue to dominate on the baseball field.

  • Bryson Stott Last 30 Games: .327 BA, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 7 SB

  • Alec Bohm Last 30 Games: .333 BA, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 19 R

We touched on Kyle Schwarber above, but itā€™s also worth noting that Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos continue to heat up as we enter mid-August.

After struggling to regain his power after a miraculous return from Tommy John surgery, Harper looks like heā€™s finally finding his groove again. Over the past 7 games, heā€™s batting .310 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.

As for Nick Castellanos, he snapped out of an ugly month of July down in Miami. Over his past 7 games, Castellanos is batting .300 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI.

Trea Turner Signature Slide ā„¢ļø

Finally, after a brutal start to the 2023 season, it looks like Trea Turner is getting back to being one of the best players in Major League Baseball.

@libertylinephl

trea turner answered the call this weekend against the royals. welcome to philly šŸ””šŸ«”šŸ”„ #phillies #philliesbaseball #philliesfan #philliesfan... See more

Yes, I know Turner finally got things rolling against the Royals and Nationals, but at this point, weā€™ll celebrate it anyways.

Plus, when we are getting the ā€œTrea Turner Signature Slideā€ across home plate, you have to feel optimistic about the the final stretch of the regular season.

Get Well Soon, Brandon Marsh šŸ¤•

Brandon Marsh had an ugly collision with the centerfield wall at Citizens Bank Park in the series against the Royals over the weekend. The result was a bruised knee, which will keep him out of the lineup for 2-3 weeks.

Marsh Sidelined, Phillies Roster Moves:

  • Phillies call up Weston Wilson from Triple A Lehigh Valley.

  • Johan Rojas will be Philliesā€™ everyday starter in CF

Cristian Pache will begin rehab assignment in Lehigh Valley this week and hopefully, heā€™ll be able to pick up where he left off before getting injured.

In the meantime, Rojas has proved that he can handle the ā€œcenter stageā€ in the big leagues. Heā€™s averaging .320 with 16 hits, 8 RBI, and 5 stolen bases in 50 at-bats with the Phillies this season while playing fearless defense in the outfield.

Eagles Rankings: NFL Top 100

The Philadelphia Eagles had SEVEN players in the annual NFL Top 100 rankings. While their positions are certainly up for debate amongst football fans, Jalen Hurts checked in at No. 3 overall after not even making the list last season.

How much do players care about the rankings? Well, according to Eaglesā€™ WR AJ Brown, they do not care at all. Read more about that here Ā»

Weā€™re Talkinā€™ Bout Practice?!

Over 50,000 Eagles fans showed up for the teamā€™s only open practice on the summer schedule at Lincoln Financial Field over the weekend which personally, I find to be absolutely insane, but in the best way possible.

Ranking Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Road Trips

I know the prospect of organizing a trip can seem daunting. Fortunately, we at The Liberty Line have partnered with Phans of Philly, the premier organizers of Eagles road trips.

Phans of Philly takes care of everything and is flexible on payment plans for any upcoming trips this football season. You donā€™t have to worry about flights, hotels, tailgates, or planning activities while on the road.
