Phillies remain intact at the MLB Trade Deadline 🧐
The MLB Trade Deadline officially passed at 6PM on Tuesday and for the most part, the Philadelphia Phillies remained quiet, adding two mid-level additions to help bolster their roster over the final two months of the 2023 regular season.
Dave Dombrowski, unwilling to listen to offers for their top prospects in Andrew Painter, Mick Abel, and Griff McGarry made two trades ahead of the deadline, adding All-Star pitcher Michael Lorenzen from the Detroit Tigers and right-handed infielder Rodolfo Castro from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Not exactly what Phillies fans were expecting, right? We’ll get into all the details below. Let’s get a quick standings update after the Phillies won their second straight game in Miami last night.

National League East Standings
The Phillies remain 11 games out of first place in the National League East standings behind the Atlanta Braves.
After winning two straight against the Marlins, The Fightins sit in second place, one and a half games ahead of Miami in third place.
As for the Mets, well, they turned into sellers at the deadline and all things considered are waiving the white flag on the 2023 season. Bummer.
The Hunt for Red October continues in the NL Wild Card
The Phillies have now won two straight games and are 6-4 over their last 10. At 58-49 on the season, they currently sit in the second NL Wild Card spot, a half game up on the Milwaukee Brewers in third and a half game behind the San Francisco Giants in first.

The Force Awakens: Nick Castellanos Returns After Brutal Month-Long Slump
After Bryce Harper tied the game at 1-1 last night, Nick Castellanos stepped up to the plate and rightfully so, Phillies fans didn’t have much faith in their struggling All-Star right fielder.
Nick Castellanos Very Bad Start to Second Half of the MLB Season
Pre All-Star Break: .301/.344/.496 with a .840 OPS.
At the Plate: 26 2B, 13 HRs, 3B, 55 RBI
Post All-Star Break: .123/.162/.169 with a .331 OPS.
At The Plate: HR, 5 RBI
24 Games in July: .162 BA, 16 H, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 5 R
Castellanos stepped up to the plate with one out in the ninth inning of last night’s game and Harper at second base. Nick was 1 FOR HIS LAST 22 at the plate and hadn’t hit a home run in 20 GAMES. He fell behind 0-2 in the count before DESTROYING a go-ahead 2-run home run to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead over the Marlins.
Michael Lorenzen joins the Philadelphia Phillies
Lorenzen was basically the Detroit Tigers’ All-Star by default, but had a VERY strong month of July.
Bailey Falter OUT, Rodolfo Castro IN
Right before the 6PM MLB Trade Deadline yesterday, Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies have acquired right-handed infielder Rodolfo Castro from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
On the season, Castro is averaging just .228 with 45 hits, 6 home runs, and 22 RBI over 197 at-bats. Over his 3-year MLB career, he holds a .226 batting average with a .695 OPS.
Castro does bat .290/.368/.536 against lefties and the Phillies desperately needed some help on the right side of the plate.

Last night, Kingery smashed a go-ahead GRAND SLAM to give the Lehigh Valley IronPigs a 7-6 lead over Buffalo. At this point and honestly, I really don’t see any reason why Kingery shouldn’t be on the 40-man roster and in a Phillies uniform.
June: .343/.349/.337 with a .652 OPS. 7 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 9 BB, 24 R
Season: .267 BA, 12 HR, 38 RBI, 19 SB, 50 R, .793 OPS
