THE CHASE returns for another World Series run, updates on the 76ers playoff chances, Eagles, and new website Cart Path Only

THE CHASE for Red October Begins 🔔

HAND UP. ✋

If you’re reading this, then you already know that The Chase hasn’t been hitting your inboxes since the Philadelphia Phillies lost two straight games to the Arizona Diamondbacks at home in the 2023 NLCS.

Honestly, I just didn’t have it in me to open up a new draft after what should have been a second straight trip to the World Series for our beloved baseball team here in Philadelphia.

That being said, the calendar year has now flipped to 2024 and The Chase, more commonly referred to as “The Hunt” for Red October returns. Today is MLB Opening Day but here in Philadelphia, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow thanks to heavy rain in the forecast.

The Chase returns and we will have Phillies coverage hitting your inbox a few times a week from now until early November.

Phillies Opening Day Currents 🌊

Adjustments to the Starting Rotation

Spencer Turnbull will open the season in the starting rotation, taking the injured Taijuan Walker spot. He will pitch the sixth game of the regular season on April 3rd against the Cincinnati Reds.

Phillies Bullpen Depth Chart

With Turnbull now in the rotation until Walker is available from the 15-Day Injured List, the Phillies have Connor Brogdon, Luis Ortiz, and Yunior Marte all in the bullpen, while Orion Kettering also opens up the regular season on the injured list.

Brogdon appeared in seven games this Spring, posting a 4.15 ERA with seven strikeouts and a 1.85 WHIP in 8.2 innings of work. Ortiz went 0-2 with eight strikeouts and a 0.89 WHIP over nine innings of work and Marte posted a squeaky clean 0.00 ERA over 10 innings of work with seven strikeouts and a 0.80 WHIP.

Projected Opening Day Lineup

The Phillies Opening Day Lineup will probably feature Kyle Schwarber leading off with Alec Bohm in the cleanup spot. Zack Wheeler will get the start and for now, Jose Alvarado will be the Phillies’ closer.

The Power of Christ Compels You, Nick Castellanos

While rescheduling the first game of the season is a total bummer and heavy rain paired with cold weather in late March always sucks, starting the season on Good Friday might actually work out for the Phillies after all.

According to the Gospel of Mark, Jesus endured the torment of crucifixion from the third hour (approximately 9am and noon), until his death in the ninth hour, corresponding to about 3pm.

Last season, Castellanos hit .294 with 15 hits, 4 home runs, and 8 runs scored over 13 games against the Braves. In the NLDS, Castellanos hit .467 with 7 hits, 4 home runs, 4 RBIs and 5 runs scored over 4 games against Atlanta.

Zack Wheeler vs Spencer Strider

Zack Wheeler is still slated to make his first ever Opening Day start, a position previously held by Aaron Nola for the past six seasons here in Philadelphia.

With that, Aaron Nola’s streak of Opening Day starts will end at six. His streak will be the third longest in Phillies’ franchise history behind Robin Roberts (12) and Steve Carlton (10).

The decision to start Wheeler came after the Phillies inked their ace pitcher to a three-year, $126 million contract extension, the highest average annual value ($42 million) for a contract extension in MLB history.

Personally, I’m excited to see the debut of Wheeler’s new weapon, a splitter that was working on a lot down in Clearwater during Spring Training.

I guess we should talk about the Philadelphia 76ers
?

Save us Joel Embiid, you are literally our only hope.

The Sixers are 13-26 on the season without Joel Embiid and are on the brink of being a play-in team, stuck in the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference standings with less than 10 games left in the regular season.

Last night, the officiating crew committed highway robbery with a “no foul” call on Paul George as Kelly Oubre Jr drove to the basket with seconds remaining on the clock. The Sixers downfall continued with a heartbreaking loss, and at this point should be considered a lock for the NBA Play-In Tournament.

Oubre was furious following last night’s loss to the Clippers.

Philadelphia Eagles Currents 🌊

Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles have been all over the place signing free agents - most notably, Saquon Barkley. Stay up to date on all things Eagles this offseason RIGHT HERE.

Phans of Philly in Eagles & Phillies Away Game Trips

Phans of Philly is INCREDIBLE: Flights, Hotels, Tickets, Happy Hours and Tailgates already scheduled. If you’re heading to Arizona this weekend, make sure to reach out to Phans of Philly and get in on their tailgate and pregame parties. They will be out there for ALL THREE GAMES (if necessary). đŸ»

Who knows, maybe you’ll see The Liberty Line in Brazil for Week 1
