Sixers Drop Second-Straight, But the Eagles Are Right Around the Corner

The Chase continues. Thursday, baby. Sxiers lose their second-straight, but luckily, the Eagles return Monday night to bring the great city of Philadelphia the honor it deserves. Let’s riff.
Thursday is designed to catch you up on all the latest Philly Sports news and other trending storylines from across the internet. Our regular newsletter with daily topics will continue Tuesday.
🌊 THE CURRENTS
BIRDS MIC’D UP. Adam Schefter shut down the AJ Brown trade rumors, subtly calling out Dianna Russini for repeatedly pushing a false narrative. Despite her weekly reports, nothing was ever real — and Schefter confirmed it on 97.5 The Fanatic. Brown was never leaving Philly; Russini was just chasing clicks in a media world that values engagement over truth.. Complete coverage here.
SPOOKY SIXERS. The Sixers dropped their second straight game, falling 132-121 to Cleveland in a back-to-back that exposed their fatigue and lack of depth. Tyrese Maxey posted 27 points but looked gassed, while rookie VJ Edgecombe struggled through his first real clunker. Trendon Watford and Andre Drummond were bright spots off the bench, but Nick Nurse’s late-game decisions raised eyebrows as he left his starters in during garbage time. With Embiid, George, and others still out, the Sixers need rest — and a reset — before hosting Toronto and Detroit this weekend. Complete coverage here.
PHILLIES FREE AGENCY. The Phillies officially picked up José Alvarado’s $9 million club option for 2026 — a move that was as inevitable as it was necessary. Despite his 2025 PED suspension and injury woes, letting a 100-mph lefty walk in a weak reliever market would’ve been ridiculous. Alvarado’s stuff is still elite when he’s locked in, and with few viable alternatives available, this is a low-risk, high-reward bet that could easily pay off if he returns to his 2023 form. Stay up-to-date on all Phillies news here.
WHAT’S TRENDING. Jaylen Brown’s hairline went viral again — and instead of laughing it off, he’s now claiming the clips are AI. The videos are clearly just NBA broadcast footage, but Brown’s bizarre denial turned an embarrassing moment into a full-on spectacle. Rather than ignore it, he doubled down and made himself look even worse — a textbook example of how not to handle internet jokes. News from across the internet is right here.
