Sixers Epic 4th Quarter Collapse, NFL Schedule Release, Mother's Day is Cancelled

Celtics force Game 7 in Boston after Sixers score just 3 points in final six minutes of Game 6

Chasing Liberty

PAIN.

The Philadelphia 76ers needed just one more win against the Boston Celtics to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2001.

That did not happen last night.

The Sixers shot 0-for-9 from the floor over the final six minutes. They scored a total of 13 points in the fourth quarter of a closeout Game 6 on their home court. The result was a 95-86 loss to the Celtics forcing the cancellation of Mother’s Day and a decisive Game 7 on Sunday in Boston.

I had to rewrite this entire newsletter.

I had The Chase ready to launch this morning thinking the Sixers would be heading to the Eastern Conference Finals. That of course, did not happen and now I’m reliving last night’s epic collapse in the fourth quarter and debating whether or not I should save my mental health by deleting The Liberty Line and not watching sports for the rest of the life.

That of course, won’t happen and now we’re back with another edition of The Chase and a pivotal Game 7 in Boston on Sunday.

We also have the Philadelphia 2023 NFL Schedule so at least there’s something to be hopeful about, right?

….right?!

New in The Liberty Line Store

If you scroll down and go Premium, we’ll send you a newly designed Phillies “Just Ring It” t-shirt for just $1.00 so you can be ready to rock for all 162 games this year.

Yes. $1.00 T-Shirts. Seriously.

I could plug the EMVPIID t-shirt or the other Sixers-related merch we have up in the store but at this point, I think it’s safe to say that sales might take a dip on those items until we learn our fate on Sunday in Boston.

Tyrese Maxey “Ready for War” in Game 7

I know the vibes are incredibly low at the moment, but at least Maxey is determined to go into Boston and win Game 7. The Sixers have won two on the road already this series. Winning 3 in Boston might seem impossible, but it would honestly be the most Sixers thing ever.

Philadelphia Phillies Mini-Sweep Toronto Blue Jays

Remember the Philadelphia Phillies? They just completed a mini-sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays at Citizens Bank Park. At 18-19 on the season, The Fightins are in 3rd place in the NL East Standings and are now on the road in Colorado for the weekend.

The unofficial start to the 2023 MLB season is June 1st, so we still have a few weeks before it’s time to get locked in on the Phillies.

There has been a few highlights from the stands in Citizens Bank Park, which you can check out right here.

The ‘Dollar Dog Wave’ at Citizens Bank Park 🌭🌊

The only acceptable time to do the wave at a baseball game is at citizens bank park on a Phillies Dollar Dog Night with hot dogs being tossed into the air. 😂

Joel Embiid Presser after Game 6

Joel Embiid tried to make sense of what happened last night in a postgame interview that left Sixers fans extremely unhappy on social media.

Joel to answer your question, I do not like Game 7’s when you and the Sixers had the perfect opportunity to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals at home last night.

Also, you are supposed to DEMAND the ball when the rest of your team is clearly struggling to do much of anything on the offensive side of the basketball court. That is why you were crowned the NBA’s Most Valuable Player.

Of course Embiid has to be better.

Saying “I didn’t get the ball” really doesn’t resonate with Sixers fans because he is expected to touch the ball on every every offensive possession.

Talking about Game 7s and asking who doesn’t love them after what the city of Philadelphia had to endure against the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors is obviously ridiculous but I’m holding out faith that Embiid said that light heartedly and just wanted everyone, including himself, to calm down a bit because the series is not over yet.

The Sixers shot a miserable 0-for-9 from the floor over the last six minutes in the fourth quarter and not a single person playing or coaching did anything about it.

Sixers in the 4th Quarter of Game 6

  • De’Anthony Melton: 0-4

  • PJ Tucker: 0-1

  • James Harden: 0-4

  • Joel Embiid: 3-6

  • Tyrese Maxey: 1-3

  • Tobias Harris: 0-0

  • Jaden Springer: 1-1
