Phillies Dominate the World Baseball Classic…

Welcome back to another edition of The Chase, brought to you by The Liberty Line. Look, I know the cadence has been anything but consistent, however the month of February and early March is certainly a down time for content and we’ve been grinding behind the scenes to plan for the year ahead.

The Phillies carried Team USA in the World Baseball Classic but in the end, it wasn’t enough 🇺🇸

JT Realmuto, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber carried Team USA in the World Baseball Classic, but America fell to Japan in the championship game last night 3-2.

Realmuto, Turner, and Schwarber averaged .368 with seven home runs and a 1.259 OPS during the World Baseball Classic.

The rest of Team USA averaged .259 with five home runs and a .819 OPS.

Trea Turner hit five home runs during the Classic, the most EVER from a Team USA member in a single World Baseball Classic.

• Turner: .391/.440/1.043 (1.483 OPS), 5 home runs, 9 hits, 11 RBI

• Schwarber: .214/.450/.643 (1.093 OPS), 2 home runs, 3 hits, 4 RBI

• J.T. Realmuto: .500/.533/.667 (1.200 OPS), 6 hits, 2 RBI

Listen, you can say whatever you want about the World Baseball Classic and when it should or shouldn’t be played, but at the end of the day, we have meaningful baseball in March. That’s awesome for any fan out there, and it also shows how big the game is on the world stage.

If anything, the Classic should be the new “Spring Standard” and get everyone involved. Start Spring Training earlier and let pitchers and players prep for the tournament, and run a shortened Spring for anyone not participating.

Joel Embiid: The Unstoppable Force

It’s funny how a week can change everything. Joel Embiid led the Sixers to a perfect 3-0 record last week, winning his second consecutive Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award. The result catapulted Embiid to the favorite to win the NBA MVP Award, overtaking Nikola Jokic.

Embiid has averaged 35 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks over that stretch and with 11 games remaining, the Sixers sit just a game behind the Boston Celtics in second and three games behind the East-leading Milwaukee Bucks.

As far as I’m concerned, the race for the NBA MVP Award is over and it’s time we give Joel Embiid the recognition he deserves.

Bryce Harper: Ahead of Schedule

John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski have been talking to the media over the past week and let Phillies fans know that Bryce Harper will NOT be heading to the 60-Day Injured List, meaning the Phillies MVP could return before May 29th, earlier than expected.

What’s the reasoning behind the Phillies log not being entered on the new scoreboard? Am I going crazy with my ADHD or are we all on the same page here? Regardless, the scoreboard looks SEXY. Ready for baseball at the BANK.

Flyers Tank Watch: Bedard or Bust

The Philadelphia Flyers need to lose every hockey game imaginable so they can land Connor Bedard. Our guys at The Liberty Yell are paying close attention and keeping everyone updated.

The fate of hockey in Philadelphia depends on it.

I’ll be totally honest with you. I can’t get through another pandemic. The last one was plenty and if we all have to be scared of killer fungi, then just count me out.

Hopefully, this is just an effort to limit folks like me who eat shrooms during the summer and get my trip (therapy) on out in the sun. Also, sorry mom, I know you’re a subscriber to the newsletter. I’m just joking, I promise. (not really).
