Chasing Liberty

This. Is. March.

After a slow end to February, The Chase continues…

What’s up everyone? Man, the last couple weeks have been slower than PJ Tucker in transition. The end of February is always rough. We’re now just days away from Daylight Savings, everyone is waiting for the NBA to actually matter, folks are gearing up to pretend they watched college basketball all season for March Madness, and the Phillies are still playing meaningless baseball in the beautiful weather down in Clearwater, Florida making us all very jealous that we decide to live in the Northeast where it’s miserably cold all winter long.

Luckily, we’re preparing to gear up yet again for what will be a fantastic Spring. The Liberty Line has a ton of great content, events, and things planned as we roll into Spring/Summer, so let’s get this party rolling.

Currents 🌊

An Emotional Goodbye to CJ Gardner-Johnson

Late last night, CJ Gardner-Johnson posted this video to his Twitter account, which had all of us night owls in our feelings.

Pain. With CJ Gardner-Johnson as good as gone, that leaves the Eagles with a vacant safety and cornerback position, while Marcus Epps is heavily sought after in free agency.

Why didn’t Howie use the franchise tag? Who knows, but letting CJ Gardner-Johnson find greener pastures outside of Philadelphia better not bite us in the ass next season.

EMVPIID

I know. The vibes around the Sixers aren’t quite there yet, but they definitely should be after last night’s dominant win in Minnesota. Joel Embiid and company just won 4-of-5 games on the road to improve to 43-22 on the season. They’re locked in the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference, four games out of first place and just 1.5 games behind the Boston Celtics in second.

Joel is averaging 33.3 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game, 4.1 assists per game, and 1.6 blocks per game with a true scoring percentage of 64.7%. There you go stat nerds. That’s 33 points per game on 65 percent shooting percentage.

I refuse to let the MVP conversation hold much weight this year but for anyone who thinks he’s not the best basketball player in the NBA right now, then maybe it’s time to wake up or pick a new sport to watch because clearly, you know nothing.

King Henry to Philadelphia…?

Honestly, I have zero clue how this makes sense given the fact that CJ basically just said goodbye last night and the Eagles don’t have plans to re-sign Miles Sanders yet, but Bookies.com believes that Philly has the second best odds (behind the Titans) to land Derrick Henry.

Jalen Hurts in for a Massive Payday

Looking at other quarterbacks around the league, the Philadelphia Eagles are almost certainly about to make Jalen Hurts a very, very rich man.

  • Daniel Jones: 4 Years / $160M

  • Dak Prescott: 4 Years / $160M

  • Matt Stafford: 4 Years / $160M (Yikes)

  • Derek Carr: 4 Years / $150M

  • Geno Smith: 3 Yeras / $105M

Um…yeah. And all those quarterbacks outside of WVU alum (Go Mountaineers) were absolutely terrible last year. Lurie and Roseman are about to back up the Brinks truck for Hurts and hopefully sooner than later so we can fill all the other vacant holes on this team.

Will the Philadelphia Eagles bring back Marcus Epps?

If CJ Gardner-Johnson is in fact, out the door, then the Eagles should be re-signing their other safety, Marcus Epps today before another team overpays for him.

The Morning Commute ☕️

I shared this episode of Monetize Media in last week’s edition of The Chase and people really enjoyed it so I’m posting it here again. I had the chance to sit down with Kyle Scott and Jason Ziernicki to talk about the creation of The Liberty Line.

It was a surreal experience given the fact that I grew up reading Kyle Scott on the website he founded, Crossing Broad. Take a listen, maybe you’ll learn something or at the very least, understand all of the hard work that goes into building a website with insane growth in just 3 years time.
