The Weekender: Eagles Dominate Detroit, Sit Alone Atop NFC
Eagles are in the driver's seat for the No. 1 seed after punking Detroit on national television

The Chase continues. The Eagles’ championship defense is back. After ripping Jordan Love’s soul out last Monday, Vic Fangio’s group delivered an encore Sunday night against Detroit. Jared Goff was seeing ghosts from the opening snap, and the Eagles’ defensive line lived in his lap all night. Dan Campbell’s squad mustered just nine miserable points and didn’t convert a single fourth down.
As for the Eagles offense, we’ll handle that tomorrow. Today is Victory Monday, and I don’t have the time — or the energy — to be mad. I’ve got too much livin’ to do.

🌊 THE CURRENTS
GO BIRDS. Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Lions spent months talking, then got embarrassed as the Eagles defense smothered Detroit, holding them to nine points while St. Brown managed just two catches on 12 targets and got locked up all night. Fangio’s unit looked like the best defense in the league, the offense still needs fixing, but the Birds still notched a huge win and strengthened their push for the No. 1 seed. Complete coverage of the Eagles here.
SIXERS SATURDAYS. The Sixers wasted a huge chance, blowing a second-half lead and losing 114–105 to a Pistons squad missing half its roster. Tyrese Maxey put up numbers but struggled with decision-making, the offense fell apart, and Detroit—already on an eight-game heater—outplayed a shorthanded Philly team missing Embiid, Paul George, and McCain. VJ Edgecombe finally bounced back, Dominick Barlow returned strong, and a 14–0 third-quarter run briefly flipped the game before the Sixers collapsed again. Oubre’s knee injury only made things worse as Philly dropped to 0–2 in NBA Cup play. Complete coverage of the Sixers here.
PHILLIES OFFSEASON. Bryce Harper accidentally broke Phillies Twitter after a now-deleted TikTok showed him rocking a thick, chaotic mustache that instantly aged him 20 years and made him look like he just wrapped a shift at a bowling alley. Social media torched him with comparisons to Aaron Rodgers, 80’s porn stars, Frank Gallagher, and Matthew McConaughey, while the video—posted during a workout—briefly racked up views before Bryce panic-deleted it. Raw-milk jokes flew, the memes were relentless, and honestly, all deserved. But the real positive: Harper’s back in the gym and not dealing with pointless front-office drama. The Phillies have real questions heading into 2026, but for now, Bryce’s mustache is the offseason storyline we didn’t know we needed. Stay up-to-date on all Phillies news here.
WHAT’S TRENDING. A Texas A&M trooper tried to square up on an injured South Carolina player and somehow managed to look even more ridiculous than the Aggies’ first half. Dillon Brooks delivered his best Joel Embiid impression, got slapped with a $25K fine for a “lewd gesture,” and immediately became the league’s weekend meme. Draymond Green had words for Victor Wembanyama after getting dunked into oblivion and embarrassed online. A new report painted Brian Daboll as a full-blown disaster as a human being, not just a 20–40 coach. And scientists dropped bleak new details about interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS after its scorching flyby of the Sun — none of them reassuring. Stay informed.
