The Weekender: Eagles pull off the best BYE week of all time
Eagles sit atop the NFC and didn't even play a game this weekend - you love to see it.

The Chase continues. The Eagles didn’t even play and somehow came out on top. Thanks to a comedy of NFC collapses — Giants losing to Mac Jones, Commanders getting embarrassed, Packers falling to Carolina, and the Lions getting punked — Philly enters the second half of the season as the NFC’s No. 1 seed at 6-2. And now? The cavalry arrives. Brandon Graham, AJ Brown, a healthy offensive line… plus Howie casually added Michael Carter, Jaire Alexander, and Jaelan Phillips at the deadline. Perfect bye, reinforcements incoming, destiny in their hands. Buckle up.

🌊 THE CURRENTS
GO BIRDS. Howie spent the weekend treating the trade deadline like Black Friday. Three deals in 72 hours — Michael Carter, Jaire Alexander, and then the big one Monday morning, landing Jaelan Phillips for a 2026 third-round pick. Absolute steal. Phillips reunites with Fangio, joins a defensive line finally getting healthy, and if he’s just a rental, he could still net the Eagles a comp pick. Classic Howie move — load up the defense, keep the future intact, and make the rest of the NFC nervous. Philly isn’t waiting around this year. They’re going for it. Complete coverage of the Eagles here.
SIXERS SATURDAYS. The Sixers dropped a tough one to Boston in the NBA Cup opener — blew a 24-point deficit, clawed all the way back, Embiid’s buzzer-beater rimmed out, 109-108. Maxey was incredible, Embiid looked more mobile, and VJ Edgecombe keeps proving he’s legit. Sloppy turnovers hurt, but the signs are good. And they answered the right way Sunday, smoking the Nets 129-105 to get right back on track. Complete coverage of the Sixers here.
PHILLIES OFFSEASON. The Phillies are entering one of the biggest offseasons in franchise history after another October gut punch. Key pieces like Schwarber, Realmuto, and Ranger Suárez are hitting free agency, option decisions are looming, and arbitration raises are coming for guys like Bohm, Stott, and Luzardo. Dombrowski has to thread the needle — keep the core around Harper/Turner/Wheeler intact, rebuild the bullpen, and avoid handing out ugly long-term deals. Contender window’s still open, but this winter decides how long it stays that way. Stay up-to-date on all Phillies news here.
