USA Hockey Brings Home Gold + Eagles Win the Tush Push War
Historic Olympic redemption for Team USA and a major offseason win for the Eagles as the league backs off banning Philadelphia’s most unstoppable play.

The Chase continues. For the first time since 1980, Team USA is back on top of the hockey world after taking down Canada in a 2-1 overtime thriller to capture Olympic gold in Milano Cortina. Jack Hughes delivered the golden goal less than two minutes into 3-on-3 OT to cap off a tournament that the Americans entered with a true “gold or bust” mentality, while Connor Hellebuyck turned in a legacy-defining performance with 41 saves, including a massive 93-second 5-on-3 penalty kill that may have ultimately decided the entire tournament. Canada rolled out a super line featuring Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Macklin Celebrini, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a U.S. squad that hadn’t beaten them in a best-on-best competition since the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.
And if the on-ice result wasn’t enough, the celebration that followed made it all feel even bigger. The USA Hockey locker room was chaos in the best way possible with Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue” blasting as the team screamed every word together after ending a 46-year gold medal drought. President Donald Trump even called into the locker room to congratulate the team and invite the entire roster to Tuesday night’s State of the Union, putting a pretty fitting bow on a historic day as Team USA officially gets the full American hero treatment after pulling off one of the biggest wins the program has seen in decades.
Let’s get into it.

🌊 THE CURRENTS
EAGLES WIN THE TUSH PUSH WAR. The Eagles’ Tush Push isn’t going anywhere this offseason, as the NFL’s competition committee has not discussed banning the play and no teams submitted a rule change proposal. After a year of shifting excuses centered around player safety and aesthetics, the league’s failure to act only reinforces the belief that last year’s push to eliminate it was a targeted effort to take away one of Philadelphia’s most effective short-yardage weapons. » All Things Eagles Here
ANTHONY EDWARDS PRAISES MAXEY. Tyrese Maxey added another highlight to his breakout season Sunday night, throwing down a fast-break poster over Anthony Edwards in the Sixers’ 135-108 win over the Timberwolves. After the game, Edwards credited Maxey’s development despite being on the wrong end of one of the night’s biggest plays as Philadelphia improved to 31-26 on the year. » All Things Sixers Here
THE PHILS ARE BACK. Kyle Schwarber picked up right where he left off last season, launching a 438-foot home run at 108.7 mph in his first Grapefruit League at-bat against Pittsburgh. Despite historically poor spring numbers, Schwarber continues to use camp to fine-tune his approach as he prepares for both the World Baseball Classic and the Phillies’ regular season. » All Things Phillies Here
