Weekend Rips: Eagles face Cowboys in Dallas, Sixers host Heat, Flyers treading water, life is beautiful

It may or may not be a beautiful weekend in the Delaware Valley, but I’d have no way of knowing. Drew, Brian, Steve, and I – resident American Patriots at The Liberty Line – boarded an 8:30 am flight to Dallas courtesy of Phans of Philly to catch the Eagles. That’s right, the boys are set to have boots on the ground.

Weekend Rips is your one-stop shop for all things Philly sports heading into the weekend. I’ll catch you up on what happened this week and set the stage for every matchup Friday through Sunday. Toss in top trending stories from the website and what’s happening at TLL HQ, and Philadelphia’s favorite weekly column is quite literally the only thing you need to read today. Other than the draft list at your local watering hole, of course.

Usually, when I write this, I’m sweating Guinness and burger grease from the best bar in Philadelphia. With the early wakeup, I traded in a night out for a few dirty martinis at the A Terminal Chickie’s and Pete’s with the fellas, served up by the incomparable April.

She and Drew hit it off, Stevie struck up a conversation with the girl at the bar after barely saying hello, and Brian was flirted with, harassed, or both by another bartender whose name I didn’t care to learn. But who stayed above the fray? Your friend Ryan. I have more important things to worry about, namely, where the hell my next 7 am martini is.

You could say I have my priorities straight. I’d say I’m the Siddhartha Gautama of The Liberty Line. The truth likely exists somewhere in the middle.

While you mire in your jealousy, please know I take no joy in any of this. Of course, I’m thrilled to be on a trip with our friends at Phans; they do it right, but this is a work trip at the end of the day.

This edition of Weekend Rips is coming at you from 30k feet before we parachute behind enemy lines. So, without further ado, keep your seatbelts fastened and prepare for takeoff. It’s time to let it rip.

Eagles head down to Dallas, TLL looks to go 8-0 on Phans of Philly road trips – Sunday @ 4:25 pm

8-0 is crazy. We’ve been going on Phans trips to watch the Birds for three years now, and we’ve never witnessed a loss. While adding one more win to the tally seems impossible, the Cowboys’ defense blows, and the Eagles’ defense is the best I’ve ever seen. Throw in the fact that it’s a Kelly Green game, and it’s safe to say I’m pretty damn confident.

A lot of people point to the acquisitions of Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams as something we should be concerned about in the middle of their defensive line. Well, guess what, we can’t run the damn ball anyway. So have fun stopping the run game that stops itself.

The AJ Brown story is officially tired. Nobody cares anymore. This team is 8-2. I get we all need clicks, but there’s a point you should stop shaking your ass for dollars (post cheap clickbait) and learn to code (write real, measured journalistic stories). Granted, I do neither, but I’ve always lived in the grey area.

As always, I’ve carefully curated a travel guide for folks traveling with Phans of Philly. If you’re down in Dallas for the game, I’ve got all the spots you need to check out. I’ve been here a few times for ye olde day job, and I like to have a good time, so you can trust I’ve got you covered.

Sixers host the Heat, look to build momentum after monumental Maxey performance – Sunday @ 1 pm

JUhhhhh, Tyrese Maxey dropped 54 points and 9 assists against the Bucks last night. The guy is an absolute legend in the making. Sure, does his start to the season remind me of prime Wizards Bradely beal? Yeah. But this shit’s different.

Paul George is shaking the rust off. He dropped 21 last night on 7/12 shooting, which is what we like to see. If he can ramp up and get to his old form, that will dramatically raise the Sixers’ ceiling.

The Heat, no matter how bad they are at times. And with Joel Embiid on the shelf, it’s hard to feel amazing about this game. But the guys have proven they have some fire in their gut.

Am I still traumatized from when TLL booked a last-minute trip to Miami for a 2022 playoff game, only to watch the Sixers lose by 40? Of course I am. However, hopefully, the home court advantage will play in our favor.

Can I just be so honest with you right now?

With travel for the Eagles, I simply cannot be asked to even pretend to give one iota of a shit about the Flyers or the Union. I just don’t have it in me today. The space usually reserved for those teams is currently occupied by three dirty martinis and thoughts about my own life and decisions. Harrowing stuff, to say the least.

If you do care about the Flyers, listen to The Liberty Yell. It’s literally the only Flyers content I consume, and Chris and Derek give me everything I need to know. It’s scary how much these guys know puck.

If you care about the Union… idk read another website, brother. I’ve got AMERICAN Football to consider. There’s one in particular that’s been on our collective dick recently, but I won’t name them because I’m a gentleman. But I wish them well.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently

It’s always fuck the Cowboys, but this has been on my mind. A lot of people have been dogging on Ceedee Lamb for going out and getting hammered before their game against the Raiders last week. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing Cowboys stars getting blasted on all platforms.

But, he wears number 88. He’s living the 88 lifestyle. Obviously fuck him and every other Cowboy that ever was, but I don’t see how you can get mad for a guy that lives up to the number he wears. All I need to see is him and George Pickens cutting up lines of some blowcaine and he’s entering Micgel Earvin territory off the field, which is half the battle.
