Weekend Rips: Snowmageddon inbound, Sixers love the Joel Embiid Renaissance, Eagles OC search, Flyers and Phillies make me sick

January lowkey blows. The Eagles are toast and still have not found their next offensive coordinator. The Flyers keep getting their asses kicked in new and exciting ways. And the Phillies are asleep at the wheel. Our only saving grace is Joel Embiid returning to form for the fun and frisky Sixers.
Weekend Rips is your one-stop shop for all things Philly sports heading into the weekend. I’ll catch you up on what happened this week and set the stage for every matchup Friday through Sunday. Toss in top trending stories from the website and what’s happening at TLL HQ, and Philadelphia’s favorite weekly column is quite literally the only thing you need to read today. Other than the draft list at your local watering hole, of course.
Plus, we've got a massive snowstorm headed our way in Philadelphia this weekend. Estimates are showing anywhere from 14"-20" of snow on Sunday, and to say I'm woefully unprepared is an understatement. But that will all change when I pick up enough bloody mary materials to quench the thirst of a small army ahead of the storm.
We've got a relatively light sports weekend with the temperatures dipping down into the teens. If you're staying inside, you're smart. If you're not, make sure you've got a hefty beer blanket on. Ready or not, the snow's coming, and it's time to let it rip.
Joel Embiid looks to continue his renaissance vs. the Knicks - Saturday @ 3 pm
Holy shit, Joel Embiid looks great. The Big Fella had a 32-point triple-double against the Rockets last night and is back to trolling like his old self. Tyrese Maxey remains incredible after being selected as an All-Star starter for the first time in his career.
Meanwhile, the Knicks are in disarray. KAT is wearing out his welcome, and they ask far too much of Brunson at times. They're still one of the best teams in the East, but the cohesion just isn't there.
So, Sixers by 30. I want a 50 burger from Embiid tonight.
Eagles still searching for their OC...
Mike McDaniel will not be the Eagles' offensive coordinator. It's a shame, but honestly expected. So that leaves a few options.
Most intriguing to me is Declan Doyle, the 31-year-old OC in Chicago under Ben Johnson. While he hasn't called plays, working under an offensive genius like Johnson should mean some fresh new ideas in Philly. Plus, with his age, it's unlikely he'll be a head coaching candidate after one season. Maybe we'll get some continuity.
The other option is Bobby Slowik, former passing game coordinator in Miami. He was a hot name for head coaching gigs alongside Ben Johnson a few years ago, but CJ Stroud turning into a pumpkin got him canned. The Birds interviewed him today, and he's probably the most likely name on our list of prospects. Will he stick around longer than a year if things go well? Maybe. But who cares anymore?
Flyers try to right the ship vs. the Avalanche - Friday @ 9 pm
Look at this shit. I'm disgusted. I genuinely have nothing to say. Too good to tank, too bad for the playoffs. Hockey purgatory.

The Phillies are content with their roster, but the fans are anything but
The Phillies have basically told fans to go fuck themselves this winter. They let Ranger Suarez walk to sign Bo Bichette, only to lose him to the Mets at the 11th hour. Alec Crybaby Bohm and Bryson Stott are still on this team, the outfield still blows even with the addition of Adolis Garcia, and the rotation hinges on Andrew Painter succeeding in the big leagues.
You may be asking, "Is Andrew Painter even good?" At this point, he doesn't have a choice.
